Novice – prone to crashes!

Beginners, especially young ones, in driving, are prone to crashes and have high crash rates. Their inexperience and lack of knowledge in driving skills and capabilities are the major causes for the crashes. Quietly so, driving requires a myriad series of basic tasks – steering, braking, accelerating – and higher skills – problem solving, vision, hazard perception. Hence it can be a complex task.

One of the possible ways to address the difficulties of driving is to acquire the required skills and capabilities prior to having a full driving license. Training is sought either from the parents or any other relative as licensed driver (less formal) or from the professional driving schools (professional and hence formal). Out of these two ways, latter is considered as the efficient and effective way to learn and hence prepare for the road test (which the jurisdiction has set as the minimum driving standards).
Providing the knowledge on the skills and abilities to drive, doesn’t solely constitute the overall objective of driver education and training programs. Firstly, in order to reduce the crash risk of young newbie drivers, new licensing approaches have been sought. Secondly, the adoption of graduation licensing ensued much interest in improvising the procedures of driver education and training programs. Lastly, such recent developments have encouraged the participation of parents for supervision as means to improve the practice and skills.

There are many states – like Maryland – where improvised driving schools have been set up. Driving classes are available in every cities of MD.
